Why would I deceive you?

Hey, so, everyone’s talking about it, and I can’t stop thinking about it.

You seen it yet?

If you know what “it” is, either you have, or you’re planning to (and dodging spoilers). Or, c) not interested and wishing people would stfu about it.

In case you’re clueless, I’m referring to You Can See Everything, Nathan Fielder’s Elizabeth Holmes documentary.

Having seen it Monday, here’s my advice:

You’ve probably at least seen the “Why would I deceive you?” moment that launched a thousand memes:

And since this email is an invite to next Thursday’s free email class, I’ll add my own (with a watermark because I don’t want to pay for premium):

I would never pretend there won’t be an offer, because (SPOILER) in addition to teaching you a buttload, I’ll be opening doors to my signature email course, Inbox Hero — with a huge discount and high-value bonuses. One of them will be available only during the session.

(I’ll also have something special for my Inbox Hero alums.)

And even if thinking there’d be no pitch would make you more likely to attend…

Who wants a bunch of grumps popping off in the chat? (“SMH your [sic] trying to sell us” “i knew it was a scam,” etc.)

Also, it suits us both if you’re prepared. Maybe you want time to explore the Inbox Hero sales page first. Have at it!

Plus, honesty is kinda my brand. I yam who I yam, and being anything else means I’m not getting paid to be me.

So WHY WOULD I DECEIVE YOU?

Now that you know my evil plans, hope you’ll come to my free email class:

And in the spirit of being real with you, the “asset you already own” is your list. But even if your list is teeny or doesn’t exist (yet), if you have the desire to write emails that get opened and get you paid, this class is for you.

Save your seat here — and come live.

See you there!

Until then, I’ll be burrowing in the YCSE rabbit hole. May show up with red eyes, blinking at the daylight.

PS - I’m haunted by two unseeable body parts in the movie. Write back with your guesses — and all your takes. I’m dying to discuss.

"Yours are the only emails I actually open and read" - a regular reply in my inbox since 2009...and I'll bet in yours, too, once you subscribe and learn by pure, lazy osmosis to become the most compelling writer around. That said, no promises on improving your moral character.

Hey! If you’re in the online biz/marketing world I call “The Space,” you’ve probably heard (and heard and heard) about an overnight sensation named Jessi Jean and the big “Yap Challenge” launch that made her 7 million bucks. Or something like that. She was teaching people to do what she does on social media: talk casually on video. AKA “yapping.” (Something I’ve been doing for years, but not with the ubiquitous, tiny, fuzzy mic or the name “yapping.”) And that puppy SOLD. Her big money...

TODAY! I’m speaking in Suzanne Kingsbury’s Gateless Fall Festival. Hope you’re coming to: A Clear Map to the Book You Really Want to Write. ← Click to sign up if you haven’t yet. Yes, you’ll get the replays. OK — you know that email I sent last week announcing my new free email class? (It was about Netflix’s East of Eden series and started off with a note on Florence Pugh’s lip filler. Read it here if you missed it.) When I wrote it, I was pretty sure I’d get a fuming reply from at least one...

So — every single time I try to make money by sending a bunch of emails, the weirdest thing happens: It works! Some promotions do better than others, but if an offer doesn’t sell well, it’s almost always because of one thing: I was lazy. Or disorganized. Or discouraged by initial sales. Or cocky that my light drizzle of promotion would be enough. Or, despite everything I preach, reluctant to “bombard” your inbox. Sometimes, all of the above. But it’s still the one thing: I didn’t send enough...
