The Devil Wears Laura

Hey Reader,

If you’ll indulge me, a quick brag.

Cole Schafer, copywriter extraordinaire (and I mean that, his talent is way out of the ordinary in this AI-sputum-embracing online space), gave me a huge compliment in a LinkedIn post this week.

You know that joke of the actor reading through a script? “Blah blah blah my line, blah blah blah my line…”

That’s kind of what I’m doing when I post this without the other shoutouts between the top and the part about me. You can read the whole thing, which is an excellent post on the state of copywriting, on LinkedIn or in my repost on IG.

It’s just a lot for one email.

The Anna Wintour of copywriting! I blush.

I like to think he means as in “legend,” not as in the terrifying Vogue demon boss who famously won’t let anyone enter the elevator she’s in.

Fun fact: a friend I worked with at SPY Magazine in the 90s went to interview at Vogue when Wintour was hiring a new assistant. The desk assistant looked her up and down when she arrived and said, “Oh. We’ll have to change you.” Apparently, her hem length was on the way out.

I hope this brag doesn’t come across the way Amanda’s do on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She’s the newest cast member, along with Rachel Zoe, and the first from “our” world — the online space. They do NOT know what to make of her livelihood.

Her “manifest abundance” “claim your worth” “own your success” female empowerment shtick is par for the course around here — if no less annoying and basic — but it’s really not a culture fit on the show.

I cringe so hard at some of her scenes, I might have ruptured a disk. Also, I’m LIVING for it.

With that, Happy Monday!

And feel free to send me a brag of your own.

xoLaura

I don’t understand astrology or put much stock in it, except that I identify strongly as a Scorpio because I’m obsessive and I notice I get along very well with Libras. (My husband being one.) Also, gotta believe in moon phases. They control the tides! That’s powerful stuff. I can’t control the sink sprayer. And, as I’m on my new “Woo Journey,” I’m open to whatever. So I was intrigued when I heard from my intuition coach, Deb Driscoll, that today marks a big event up in the galaxy. Aries,...

Hey Reader, On my morning stop into Citarella, I had a good laugh at this candy: Excuse me: “LOVE CANDY AGAIN”?? Who the f needs help to "love candy again"? I could use help NOT loving sugar, or loving to lift weights. I used to fantasize that I'd magically wake up craving kale all the time. I still wish I’d magically become crazy for paperwork. And I desperately wanted to fall back in love with my very nice, funny boyfriend in the late 90s. But falling out of love with candy is not an issue...
