About that bucket list…😬

Reader!

Is the end near?

I’m not sure what to believe. We all know (those of us who are human and not AI bots or non-biodegradable Smart Water bottles) that being alive means we’re going to die one day.

Maybe that’s far off. Or, according to recent warnings about AI, it could be curtains for all of us at once, possibly even before the next season of The Pitt.

Either way, we all get that if there’s something meaningful we want to accomplish — write a book, launch a course, build a community, publish a Substack, give a mind-blowing talk on stage, change a life or many lives — we should be doing it now.

(What finally got me to write Tough Titties was realizing that if a blue NYC bus were bearing down on me, I didn’t want my last thought to be “I didn’t write my book.”)

Of course, in an apocalyptic mood, it’s tempting to say, “What’s the point?” and begin eating your weight in cookie dough. But assuming the point of all this is to be happy, and happiness comes from being fulfilled, the cookie dough will only get you full and filled. Not the same.

What I’m leading to is, it feels like time to get going on that bucket list.

If you’ve been procrastinating about a creative or work dream on yours, you’re who Shrimp Club is for.

It’s my 8-month live mentoring party (AKA mastermind), and alum Candice Coppola, who helps wedding pros, joined for exactly that reason:

“There was a specific course that I had been sitting on and researching and creating and felt like I needed accountability.

[I decided,] I’m gonna sign up for this and my sole purpose is to launch my course and to have Laura help me understand the positioning, the messaging, and the storytelling aspect. … [It was something] I had been procrastinating on because I felt like I didn’t know how to get started. The commitment to joining Shrimp Club was the commitment to starting it.”

So what happened with Candice’s course?

Not only did she create it…

She now sells it via a weekly webinar. And, she said, “it’s selling every day.”

In her words, Shrimp Club exists “to help you get out of your head and get going on the thing you’re good at…to give you the space and momentum to create, build, or market / put out the thing — and the permission and confidence you need to do it.”

Candice is one of many Shrimp Clubbers who waited years to apply and join. You could say it was on their bucket list.

Whether it’s been on your bucket list or just now came on your radar, maybe this is the moment to take the leap.

You and I could live to a hundred, but I haven’t decided whether I’ll run Shrimp Club again next year, so this might be the final round.

And, if you do live to a hundred, do you want to be thinking, “I still haven’t done [x]”? Or do you want to give yourself the gift of doing it now? (They do say, now is all we have.)

We kick off Tuesday, October 13th.

The deadline to apply is this Friday, October 9th. So when it comes to joining this round, the end is definitely near.

PS - Here’s what else Candice had to say about her experience:

“I’ve been in a mastermind and programs since and sometimes [the leader] doesn’t even know your name.

They don’t know you. And that’s not the case with Laura. She’s very personal and connected and always available if you needed anything or have a question.

A phrase, a story, a headline, a clickbaity thing — whatever you were working on, she was in the weeds with you…helping you generate ideas, giving you advice, and teaching you stuff. And that’s with everybody in the group. She was very invested in every single person.

And so you not only got eyes on your business, but you got to see how she operated in others.”

Hey! We writing together today? If you haven’t signed up for this Shrimpers-only live writing sesh with Terri Trespicio at 3pm ET, get on it. Now then — Every once in a while, I get an email reply from a Shrimper who admits they haven’t bought anything — like this one, who calls himself a “freeloader” and seems to think he’s out of place as a Shrimper. First of all, not “my demographic”? Here’s what I wrote back: And second — would I love for everyone who subscribes here to buy something,...

Hey! Since I got back from Greece, I’ve been very busy…planning the next trip to Greece. I’m obsessed. I can’t explain it in any way that doesn’t sound hackneyed — being in that water makes me feel alive. Is it a water-sign thing (Scorpio)? A back-in-the-womb thing? Actually, scratch that. I’m now picturing a trauma-healing water ritual they did on Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip (RHONY Legacy) where the women were each cradled by a practitioner while floating like fetuses in their...

Hey! To paraphrase a TV commercial for Automobile Club of America that my husband loves to quote, “Brenna McGowan, did you have to be that good?” Here’s why: Because I promoted my friend and Shrimp Club alum Brenna’s Pre-Launch Plan Program (PPP) last round, I thought I’d make life easy and repurpose a March email telling you doors are open. Just when I was about to do that, Brenna sent me some new results that blow away the ones I cited last time. Dammit, Brenna! They come from her client...
