{{ subscriber.first_name | capitalize }}’s friends

There’s a bro-y saying I’ve always hated, especially with respect to entrepreneurship and income:

“You’re the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.”

So — what — are you supposed to cut people out of your life who don’t have a proper webinar funnel set up?

👋 Bye! Can’t hang witchu anymore — your lack of steady, passive income is bringing down my average!

Or can you keep that friend who doesn’t have a business, one who’s happy as a stay-at-home mom or in their dependable, unsexy 9-5, as long as you add a high-net-worth go-getter at the top to raise the group’s combined value?

Someone, say, who owns a superdouche yacht called “Kisses”?

I know, I’m jaded. Been around this kind of talk for a good 17 years.

On the other hand, my business would never have taken off and then hit the $1M/year mark if I hadn’t made friends with people going for it in their own lives and businesses.

These are friends who say, “This new thing I just tried works so well, you should do it, too!”

Friends who show me it’s ok to create without knowing it’s going to work.

Friends who’ve:

  • Asked me to collaborate.
  • Invited me to share my expertise with their audiences.
  • Given me permission to be more of myself.
  • Handed me ideas like “You should give this PDF a name, make it a course, and sell it”.
  • Reminded me it’s selfish not to promote and share the everloving 💩 out of my genius.
  • Said, “You’re so f’ing good at this, please don’t stop”...just when I was on the verge of stopping.

And yes, sometimes, friends who make a straight-up fortune (if not a “Kisses”-level fortune) and show me it’s possible for me, too.

Where can you find those kinds of friends?

Well, I’d never tell you the only place to find them is my 8-month mastermind, Shrimp Club.

It costs a tidy sum, and it would be a schmuck move to insist that’s the only way you’ll find your people.

However!

Those are the kind of people I bring together…

…And the kinds of friendships, brainstorms, support, motivation, exchanges of ideas, and collaborations that come out of Shrimp Club.

(We call the collaborations “Shrimp on Shrimp action.” Shorthand: 🦐x🦐)

Year after year, Shrimp Club members (and alums, of which there are now over 140) make all kinds of magic in their own lives and businesses, and in each others’.

Here’s one example, in a post by Nicole Khamooshi:

FYI, “talentest” isn’t a typo. If Nicole uses it as a word, it’s a word. She’s one of the talentest writers I know.

And by "Bingeable! Live" she means "Bingeworthy Live" (Click to check it out) but with a testimonial like that, Nicole can call it anything she wants.

You can scope out the details of Shrimp Club and more incredible outcomes here.

And you can go right to the price here:

If it sounds right for you, I hope you’ll apply!

No one is “an average,” Reader.

Except with this one exception: the average of their fellow Shrimpers.

If you want to meet some above-average people, Shrimp Club might be for you.

PS - Here’s journalist Don Lemon reporting on exactly the kind of guest hosted on Kisses (which is, unfortunately, parked here in Sag Harbor). I repeat, Superdouche yacht.

"Yours are the only emails I actually open and read" - a regular reply in my inbox since 2009...and I'll bet in yours, too, once you subscribe and learn by pure, lazy osmosis to become the most compelling writer around. That said, no promises on improving your moral character.

Yesterday morning, I saw the former president of the network where I used to write promos. Great guy. Used to be my boss’s boss. He didn’t notice me. I almost said hi but it was pre-coffee, and I see him often in that exact spot, outside of Jack’s Coffee. I felt too boring and uncaffeinated today to stop and chat. We’d just recently gone through all the “How’s your summer going” and “Who’ve you seen or talked to lately” and “I can’t wait for all these summer douchebags to leave Sag Harbor”...

Hey! Got book + TV recos for you. But first — I know I’ve told you about last year’s July experiment, which this year became a tradition (and pretty much seeped into August): While I didn’t take the month-and-change off work, I took it off the clock. No appointments, no Zooms, no podcast interviews, no 1:1s for Shrimp Club, nothing scheduled. You might be saying, “Um, I think that’s called ‘vacation.’” No. Remember, I was still working. Still writing you these emails. Also, posting on social,...

Hey! This woman I know got fired from her job, and it couldn’t happen to a better person. No, this isn’t schadenfreude, I’m not celebrating someone’s downfall. (Though I’m not above it — love me some petty!) I’m happy because the person who got sacked, Heather Campbell, is a 2-round Shrimp Club member who just posted a video about it on IG and LinkedIn, and check out the results: YES! YES, HEATHER! This is what I mean when I say tell your story. Telling your story, with your details, your...
