Hey! If you know me and/or what day and month it is, you prob did a double take at the subject line. March? Is Kit glitching on Laura and sending out old emails? Or future emails? And doesn’t Laura loathe emails that start with “Can you believe it’s already ____?” No, Kit (my email service provider, where I build and communicate with my subscriber list) is behaving perfectly. I also don’t have any emails written that far ahead, or even a week out. I wish. And yes, I’ve begged everyone who sends emails to a list not to open them with a comment on the passage of time and where the F [name a month, season, or entire year] went. Here’s the real story: a few of your fellow Shrimpers have asked me when they can buy tickets for my next NYC writing workshop, Bingeworthy Live, which will be March 21-22, 2027. One wanted to make sure she scored a limited VIP ticket, which includes a priceless 1:1 Power Hour with me, because she missed out on it last year. And I’m like, Wow, you’re already mapping out next March? Good for you. And then I’m like, Wait. That’s not so far out. In fact, it might as well be tomorrow. Thanksgiving 2026 feels so soon, it’s practically yesterday. Also, I myself have trips in the books for February and May. So, even though I haven’t opened the doors yet, I started sliding these plan-in-advance types the pre-opening checkout link. Yesterday morning, I saw the former president of the network where I used to write promos. Great guy. Used to be my boss’s boss. He didn’t notice me. I almost said hi but it was pre-coffee, and I see him often in that exact spot, outside of Jack’s Coffee. I felt too boring and uncaffeinated today to stop and chat. We’d just recently gone through all the “How’s your summer going” and “Who’ve you seen or talked to lately” and “I can’t wait for all these summer douchebags to leave Sag Harbor”...
There’s a bro-y saying I’ve always hated, especially with respect to entrepreneurship and income: “You’re the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.” So — what — are you supposed to cut people out of your life who don’t have a proper webinar funnel set up? 👋 Bye! Can’t hang witchu anymore — your lack of steady, passive income is bringing down my average!
