Psst — I’m revealing a huge new bonus for Book Launch Hero that solves every storyteller’s biggest problem, so read to bottom! 👇 Reader! I went to see a friend’s one-woman show last week. She’d been working on it for years and got it into a festival at a theater on 42nd Street — a real triumph. I’m always apprehensive about theater. Especially small-production stages where you know the person and fear being the only one fake-laughing through the punchlines. The intimacy is so awkward. You’re nervous for them and for yourself. So I’m sitting there with another friend, Bruce. The theater lights go down. The stage lights come up. The chatter fades. And out comes the festival director, dressed in full “theater lady” regalia: sequined purple top, short skirt, dyed reddish-maroon hair, and a beret — presumably a nod to the show, which is about a disastrous trip to France. She looks like she sleeps under sheets printed with the comedy/tragedy drama masks (🎭) and has a cat named Catty LuPone. She stands center stage, waits for silence, and says: “Bonjour!” We respond, politely: “Bonjour.” She frowns. “You can do better than that. BONJOUR!!” We say it louder, already feeling ridiculous. “Oh, come ON, people! Let’s give it some energy. BONJOUUUUUR!!!!” This time she waves her arm like a conductor. Ugh. We shout it back so we can move on with our lives, but it’s clear: no one’s into this. Bruce and I exchange a look that says “Kill me.” This kind of forced enthusiasm drives me crazy. It happens at every conference, every live event: Some speaker comes out and says “GOOD MORNING!” It’s like in elementary school, when you’d burst into a room and the teacher would make you go back out and re-enter “the right way — walking.” I’m sure some professional speakers and theater people will tell me I’m wrong, but here’s what I know: You can’t “BONJOUR” people into feeling it. That’s true of anything you’re selling, and especially true of your book. Nobody will ever care about your book the way you do. (It’s kinda like your birthday, or your baby pics.) You can’t make people match your excitement. You can’t force them to yell back, no matter how hard you rock that beret and wave your arms, hoping they’ll give a shit. You have to make it matter to them. That’s what Book Launch Hero is for. And today, I’m adding a surprise bonus! Before I reveal it, I’ll tell you that Bruce made me promise I’d write the story of Bonjour Lady into an email. He’s not patient. This all happened last Tuesday. On Friday, he called wondering why I hadn’t written it yet. Well — A, because I’m in the middle of launching Book Launch Hero, dedicating the week’s emails to offering that; And B, because I didn’t know what I’d connect it to. I always manage to find a point to a story as I’m writing it, but during a launch I didn’t want to dick around with that. And then I had an idea. I’d promised a mystery bonus — some new, valuable training that you’d get for free with Book Launch Hero. A training on what? That part was still a mystery to me! But I kept thinking about the one question I hear over and over from my Shrimpers, in various forms: “How do you connect your random stories so seamlessly to an offer or a lesson or point?” “How do I tie a story to a sale in a way that doesn’t even feel like selling?” Ding ding ding! Your mystery bonus is a brand new, live training (date TBD) called: Make Your Point I’m going to show you my secrets for going from “fun story” to “I NEED THIS” — without a tacked-on pitch. And what better, more meta way to announce it than to take a random story (Bonjour Lady) that didn’t yet have a point… …and tie it seamlessly, miraculously, smooth-as-butter-ly, to Book Launch Hero? For now, know that it’s going to change the way you write. And it’ll cost at least as much as the Book Launch Hero double masterclass. Connecting any story to a pitch or meaningful point is a multi-million-dollar skill. It’s been my greatest edge as a marketer and national bestselling author. You can get it FREE with Book Launch Hero, but only if you get it now. Au revoir — Laura PS – I can’t hear you. I said, AU REVOIR!!! The offer ends in: PPS – Already have Book Launch Hero? This bonus is for enrollees of this round only, but you’ll be getting a special offer!

"Yours are the only emails I actually open and read" - a regular reply in my inbox since 2009...and I'll bet in yours, too, once you subscribe and learn by pure, lazy osmosis to become the most compelling writer around. That said, no promises on improving your moral character.
Hey Reader, I woke to two bits of news this week. One, that the US (and world) economy was in a tailspin. OK, that’s news we’ve been getting on the hour. But anyway. Two, that I dropped out of law school. What’s that? You didn’t know I went to law school? Well, guess what — NEITHER DID I. But when I checked my IG notifications, I saw I’d been tagged in a post all about me. What a lovely burst of dopamine to kick off my day! Then I clicked and feasted my greedy eyes on the first slide. Oh my....
Hey! I’m proud of something. Haven’t talked about it, I don’t think — though I did at the retreat for my mentoring group, Shrimp Club. During a Q&A, one of the Shrimpers asked about my recent activity surge on Instagram — because I’ve been posting like a mofo. So, GOOD, YOU BETTA NOTICE! There’s a lot more to the story, which I’ll tell soon, but on January 3rd, while I was on vacation, my friend Susie posted a story inviting her audience to join her in a 90-day challenge. Hers, she said,...
Hey Reader, I puked a lot yesterday. No idea why. I didn’t have a fever or anything, just an upset stomach. All I did was lie on the bed and binge-watch MAX’s The Pitt. (A very graphic emergency room show, it’s a tough one to stomach, especially on a bad stomach. But it’s also highly addictive, and I had 11 episodes saved up, so my day consisted of me saying, “Maybe just one more.” Yes, I watched them all.) I also did plenty of scrolling on social, and came across a video of Jon Stewart that...
